Kitchen cabinets built in our own factory, countertops, backsplash tiling and layout changes. Kitchen cabinets are the single thing our reviewers name most often.

A written quote with no hidden costs. When one client’s carpentry measured slightly under the quoted figure, the difference came off the final bill.

Permit and schedule
We submit the HDB renovation permit ourselves and give you a timeline before work starts. A whole house runs around eight weeks, depending on scope.

The work
Hacking, wet works, tiling, electrical and plumbing by our own teams, with the carpentry built at our factory. Photo updates on WhatsApp at the end of each working day.

Handover and after
Then it is yours. If something needs fixing later, we come back. One reviewer’s fan issue months after handover was sorted by our own staff.

Answered
Is Startec registered with HDB?
Yes. We are listed on HDB’s Directory of Renovation Contractors under reference HB-11-5698A, and we hold BCA workhead CR06 (Interior Decoration and Finishing Works) at grade L1. One thing worth knowing, because the wording gets used loosely across the industry: HDB lists renovation contractors on the Directory, it does not license them, and HDB states plainly that it does not endorse or guarantee the quality of a listed contractor’s work. So judge us on the reviews and the workmanship, not on the register alone. More on what HDB registration means.
What does “direct contractor” mean?
It means you deal with the people who do the work. We skipped the usual designer-to-contractor-to-subcontractor chain and manage the job directly with homeowners, with our own carpentry, electrical, plumbing and tiling teams and our own carpentry factory. No middleman, no outsourcing, and nobody marking up somebody else’s work.
Do you use your own workers, or subcontractors?
Our own. We have our own carpentry, electrical, plumbing and tiling teams, and our carpentry is built at our own factory in Toa Payoh. Some specialist items still go to a specialist, but the core trades on your job are our people. That is the whole point of “no middleman, no outsourcing”.
Do you renovate BTO flats and resale HDB flats?
Yes, both. HDB flats are the core of what we do, BTO and resale alike, and we also take on private condominium work. See the HDB renovation page.
Will you handle the HDB renovation permit?
Yes. Being on the Directory of Renovation Contractors is what allows us to submit the permit application on your behalf, so the paperwork is ours to deal with, not yours. How the permit works.
How long does a full renovation take?
Around eight weeks for a whole house, depending on scope. That is what our own jobs have run to, and one client measured it at roughly eight weeks excluding the Chinese New Year break. Smaller jobs are shorter. We give you a timeline at the start rather than a promise on a website.
Can I visit your factory before deciding?
